Our new facilities - and our DP simulator!

Maersk Training Brasil now finally has a location for our permanent training facilities.  The contract has been signed, now we just need to make some modifications to the premises - we will, after all, be installing heavy-duty simulators and establishing several classrooms.  We are well on track to being fully functional in our new premises in Q1 2013.

One of the principal features of our training facilities is our Dynamic Positioning (DP) simulator, built by Kongsberg Maritime AS.  This is a full mission DP bridge simulator integrated with the Anchor Handling simulator in accordance with the Nautical Institute (NI) class A type with 10 different vessel/units models.

 

Typical training applications of the simulator include:

• Bridge simulator courses
• Anchor handling simulator courses
• DP Sea time reduction courses
• DP advanced courses
• DP refresher courses
• DP specific courses

Beside the simulator itself, Maersk Training Brasil will have a complete classroom setup fulfilling requirements for 8 students attending basic DP courses or DP introduction courses (1 student per DP station).

In short - already in the first half of the coming year, Maersk Training Brasil will be providing top-of-the-line DP courses (among others) right here in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Sign up for our Theoretical Anchor Handling course!

Our next featured course is Theoretical Anchor Handling.  This is a five-day classroom course discussing the theory and practice of deep water anchor handling and winch operation.

Participants will go over the equipment involved, such as types of anchors and anchor systems, wires, and winches.  Best practice and safety issues are covered.  The course goes on to explain ship handling and stability issues for safe and correct anchor handling.

The course is useful for those working or interested in working on anchor handling vessels, and is open to anyone who has completed a basic Dynamic Positioning (DP) course and has operated the DP system on board a vessel.

The course will take place between 10 December and 14 December 2012, in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro.
